Do you love candy crush? It seems to be a marmite game, you either love it or you hate it. Well, CBS is hoping to turn your mobile game addiction into TV ratings gold! Yesterday a press release was released saying that the green light was granted to make Candy Crush into a hit TV show. Details on game mechanics are still pretty sparse but the network did explain that 2-person teams will “use their wits and physical agility to compete on enormous, interactive game boards.”
The Candy Crush Saga mobile game has players switching colorful candies to put together three (or more) of a kind and clear them off the board. In the Candy Crushgame show, according to the announcement, “teams of two people use their wits and physical agility to compete on enormous, interactive game boards featuring next generation technology to conquer Candy Crush and be crowned the champions.
We are huge fans of Candy Crush and, like so many others, we know the ‘rush’ of advancing to the next level of the game,” said Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment, said in a statement. “We’re excited to work with Lionsgate and King to adapt one of the world’s most popular and entertaining game franchises for television and make it available to its massive, passionate fan base who can watch and play along at home.
While I can’t personally imagine anything less interesting (I reckon my girlfriend will love it) than a large-scale version of Candy Crush, there’s always an audience for live action game shows.
CBS has not announced the premiere date for the new show.
